Community-style contradancing for young and old alike, with the feeling of a town hall social dance. Contras, squares, and circle mixers to LIVE traditional music provided by LOCO (Local On-Call Orchestra). LOCO is an open band with many fine musicians. Sitting in with the band is an excellent way to learn traditional dance tunes. Meets at Hancock Recreation Center on Wednesdays at 7:30-9:45 PM. 811 E 41st (corner of Red River). Check the taada.us website as these dances have been moving around some this year. The 3rd Saturday contra dances are often held at the Balance Dance Studios, located near 4544 South Lamar Blvd in a business park, which is on the other side of Hwy 290W from the Westgate Shopping Center. Map
They are dancing in a studio with a smooth wooden dance floor and great air conditioning. Please wear clean comfortable shoes for dancing. No high heels or dance boots are allowed. Soft-soled shoes are preferred. Make sure your shoes have clean, non-marking soles and heels. The dance begins at 7:00 pm with a walk-through of the basic moves, and continues until 10:00 pm.

English Country Dancing happens every 2nd and 4th Saturdays, 7:15-10:15 pm, with newcomers' instruction between 7:15 and 7:30 pm. Suggested donation is $6 to cover the cost of the hall. All dances are taught by our local and guest callers.

Austin Scandinavian Folk Dancers meet on the last Wednesday of the month in the BACK ROOM of Hancock Recreation Center on 41st Street (between Red River and Duval).
