OLD-TIME SQUARE DANCING

Occassionally an old-time square dance and hoedown happens in Austin.  All the dances are taught and no experience or partner required.  If you want to find out about those dances, check out the Austin Dare 2 Square Facebook page.

Austin Barn Dances

Community-style contradancing for young and old alike, with the feeling of a town hall social dance. Contras, squares, and circle mixers to LIVE traditional music provided by LOCO (Local On-Call Orchestra). LOCO is an open band with many fine musicians. Sitting in with the band is an excellent way to learn traditional dance tunes.  Meets at Hancock Recreation Center on Wednesdays at 7:30-9:45 PM. 811 E 41st (corner of Red River). 3rd Saturday Contra Dances

Check the taada.us website as these dances have been moving around some this year.  The 3rd Saturday contra dances are often held at the Balance Dance Studios, located near 4544 South Lamar Blvd in a business park, which is on the other side of Hwy 290W from the Westgate Shopping Center.  Map

They are dancing in a studio with a smooth wooden dance floor and great air conditioning. Please wear clean comfortable shoes for dancing. No high heels or dance boots are allowed. Soft-soled shoes are preferred. Make sure your shoes have clean, non-marking soles and heels. The dance begins at 7:00 pm with a walk-through of the basic moves, and continues until 10:00 pm. 

Regular admission $10, TAADA members $8, Students $5 
Please note that this is a fragrance-free dance.

ENGLISH COUNTRY DANCING 

English Country Dancing happens every 2nd and 4th Saturdays7:15-10:15 pm, with newcomers' instruction between 7:15 and 7:30 pm.   Suggested donation is $6 to cover the cost of the hall.   All dances are taught by our local and guest callers.

CLICKETY CLOGGERS of AUSTIN

Is a 40-year-old nonprofit dance group dedicated to preserving the clogging heritage and promoting the art of clog dancing--has a mission to help keep a slice of Americana alive. We dance every Thursday night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Dance by Carly dance studio, 2110 Slaughter Lane, Suite #123, Austin, TX 78748. AUSTIN INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCING

Austin International Folk Dancing  meets almost every Friday night, 7:00 to 10:00 at Hancock Recreation Center on 41st Street (between Red River and Duval).   Or visit the AIFD Facebook Group.

AUSTIN SCANDINAVIAN FOLK MUSIC AND DANCE

Austin Scandinavian Folk Dancers meet on the last Wednesday of the month in the BACK ROOM of Hancock Recreation Center on 41st Street (between Red River and Duval).   Other Wednesdays, they host jam sessions, open mics, song sessions, slow jams, and occasional tune teaching sessions. 7:30pm-9:45PM, FREE.
